Pin it for later

The modern granny stitch pattern is beginner friendly, using only basic stitches such as the chain stitch and the double crochet stitch.

The pattern is double sided meaning it looks great on either side and so, can be used in a variety of projects, from blankets and throws to jumpers and hats.

It has a lacy look and the finished project will be light and delicate.

The pattern looks great using only one color or multiple color changes.

Supplies I Used

I get most of my crochet supplies from Amazon, it's fast and easy and I find everything I need in one place.

Crocheting The Modern Granny Stitch Pattern

The pattern is a repeat of 4 rows and requires multiples of 3 + 1 chains.

Ch3 at the beginning of each row counts as a dc.

Row 3: ch3, dc in next, ch1, *dc3tog, ch2*, repeat until the last 5 stitches, dc3tog, ch1, 2dc, turn

Row 4: ch3, dc3cl in each chain space across, dc in last stitch, turn

Row 5: ch4, *dc3tog, ch2*, repeat until you have 4 stitches left, dc3tog, ch1, dc in last stitch, turn

Row 6: ch3, dc in the very first stitch, sk the fist ch1 space below and dc3cl in each ch2 space below, sk the last ch1 space, 2dc in the last space, turn

Row 7: ch3, dc in next, ch1, *dc3tog, ch2*, repeat until the last 5 stitches, dc3tog, ch1, 2dc, turn

Row 8: ch3, dc3cl in each chain space across, dc in last stitch, turn
