Pin it for later

The long wave stitch pattern is beginner friendly and works up fast using only basic stitches such as single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and treble stitches.

The pattern is double sided meaning it looks great on either side and so, can be used in a variety of projects, from blankets and garments to accessories and toys.

Supplies I Used

- Marriner Yarn DK (light worsted yarn) in green (apple)

Unfortunately MarrinerYarns ships only in the UK, so for my international customers, I can recommend a similar yarn, Red Heart Yarn , which comes is a multitude of colors and weights, just as affordable and easy to work with as Marriner Yarns.

- 4mm crochet hook

I get most of my crochet supplies from Amazon, it's fast and easy and I find everything I need in one place.

I also invested in Amazon Prime Membership which makes most of shipping free and deliveries super fast.

Crochet Terms

Written in US terms

- ch – chain

yo – yarn over

- sl st – slip stitch

- sc – single crochet

- sc blo – single crochet back loop only

- hdc – half double crochet

- hdc blo – half double crochet back loop only

- dc – double crochet

- dc blo –double crochet back loop only

- tr – treble

Special Stitches

SC/HDC/DC/TR Back Loop Only – A stitch has a front and back loop that meet at one end and look like an horizontal V (looks like this >). To crochet in the back loop only, insert the hook in the middle of the V from top and under the back loop (the loop that is away from you), yo and draw a loop (you will have 2 loops on the hook). From this point on, continue to crochet the stitch you wanted as usual.

First Treble In The Row – sc in the first stitch, ch3. Compared to the usual method of crocheting a treble in the first row (ch4), this method of constructing it will eliminate the gap that usually occurs.

The Long Wave Stitch Pattern

The pattern is a repeat of two rows and requires multiples of 14 + 4 chains.

Row 1: ch32

Row 2: sc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2sc), sc, *2hdc, 2dc, 3tr, 2dc, 2hdc,3sc*, repeat sequence until the end of the row, turn

Row 3: sc in each stitch, turn

Row 4: 3tr blo, *2dc blo, 2hdc blo, 3sc blo, 2hdc blo, 2dc blo, 3tr blo* , repeat sequence until the end of the row, turn

Row 5: sc in each stitch, turn

Repeat rows 2 to 5 until the required length is achieved.

Diagram

I have included a basic diagram to help you understand how this pattern is constructed
