Crochet Free Pattern: Snuggle Lamb Baby Lovey Security Blanket Tutorial

This little snuggle lamb was made to accompany the Cuddly Sheep Baby Blanket I made a couple of months ago. I kept the same bobble stitch pattern and same head features to match the pram blanket, but I chose to make it a star shaped lovey because I think it's so much more cute than the regular square shape.

First I had to come with a pattern for the star and this is how the Bobble Stitch 5 Point Star Pattern was born. But the original pattern was too thick and stiff to be used as a baby lovey so I had to modify the pattern slightly and use a thinner yarn to make the star softer and snugly.

- 3.5mm crochet hook, I use this set for all my designs
blunt sewing needle to fit the yarn
- 8mm black doll safety eyes

The Stitches

This pattern uses US terms.

- magic ring (MR) - tutorial here
- chain (ch)
- slip stitch (sl)
- decrease (dec) - tutorial here
- increase - tutorial HERE
- single crochet (sc)
- double crochet (dc)
- double crochet cluster (dcc) - 3 double crochet in the same chain
- modified bobble stitch (mbo)

Special Stitches

Modified Bobble Stitch – this stitch is identical to the regular bobble stitch with the only difference that it uses 3 unfinished double crochet stitches clustered together in the same chain instead of 5. Yo, insert hook into chain, yo and pull through the chain (you have 3 loops on your hook), yo and pull through 2 loops (you have 2 loops on your hook). Repeat this step 2 more times in the same chain ( you will have 4 loops on your hook), yo and pull through all 4 loops.

Corner 1 - 2dc, ch2, 2dc in the chain space formed in the previous round

Corner 2 - sc, ch2, sc in the chain space formed in the previous round

All parts of this pattern are worked in the round without turning, use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.

The lovey is made out of 6 parts:

- head
- 2 x ears
- 2 x arms
- star shaped lovey

The Head, Ears & Arms

The patterns for the head, ears and arms were previously used in the Cuddle Sheep Baby Blanket project, they are the same size and colour, you can find the pattern on my blog.

Make 2 ears, 2 legs and 1 head as directed in the pattern.

The Star Lovey

This pattern is a variation of the Bobble Stitch 5 Point Star pattern. I modified it by using DK worsted yarn instead of chunky yarn which made the star flexible and I also used a modified bobble stitch which is smaller than the regular one to make the lovey thinner.
